Presented by Dr. Pamela Stewart

The History Matters: Yours Too!

Reasons exist for why people do not look to history to address today’s challenges. Yet actively engaging in historical thinking can reveal tools for solving problems faster and with greater success. Even as personal history can matter and the presentation is useful for those interests, this is not an introduction to genealogy class. The interactive, question-based presentation encourages attendees to share experiences that allow for new starting points for learning and reflection—and creating change. The class introduces how harnessing history to solve today’s problems works. It also shows how “doing” a bit of history can help us understand our own value in creating change, open up possibilities for creatively moving forward, and lead towards resolving problems, whether on a small or much larger scale.

The Winter Lecture Series continues every Tuesday in January and February 2025. The series is sponsored by the Friends of the Apache Junction Public Library and Oak Street Health.

About the branch

With its breathtaking view of the Superstition Mountains, the Apache Junction Public Library is a welcoming destination providing education, technology, information, and entertainment, enriching the lives of individuals and families in our diverse county. Besides offering books and movies, the library offers services including a maker space, digitization services, proctoring, one-on-one technology assistance, and access to the Greater Phoenix Digital Library.

The library offers engaging events for adults and families, including age-appropriate programs for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. Fun Van by First Things First, based at AJPL, is a grant-funded program that provides parents around Pinal County with the tools they need to be their child's first and best teacher.

The Library is a Federal Document Depository with access to thousands of official government documents in person or online. The Library also participates in the Culture Pass program, giving cardholders access to museums, cultural institutions, and artistic performances in the Valley of the Sun.
